CCA Points and Attendance
Posted on:
Posted at: 2:11 PM
CCA Record is a very important account of your school activities throughout your 4-5 years in Riverside Secondary School. It will also show your capability and involvement when you are applying for tertiary education or a job in the future.
In order for each member to score as many CCA points as possible, the teachers have taken various steps and carefully planned and coordinated numerous activities to fulfill such requirements.
Thus, as members of Infocomm Club, it is compulsory to participate in
AT LEAST ONE COMPETITION A YEAR. This is to ensure that you have at least one point under
Representation of School in a year, thereby having a minimum of four points under
Participation in the LEAPS system.
Up to date, there are only less than 10 members participated in one competition. The previous Reflections Photography Competition has only 5 entries and the latest Free Media Design Competition only has 3 submissions from our club. What about the rest of you who have signed up for the competition? Participation points will only be given when you have
submitted your work, not by signing up.
If you are one of those who have not even submitted one entry for any competition, please take proactive measures to ensure that you have entered at least one competition by submitting your entry ON TIME. You only have a few months till the end of the year to clock your Participation points for this year 2009.
Please also ensure that your
ATTENDANCE DO NOT FALL BELOW 75%. Once attendance falls below 75%, all Participation points accumulated from Sec 1 till now will be wiped out from the system.
Remember that CCA is on
BOTH Wednesday and Friday. If you do not turn up for CCA without a valid reason (no MC or parental letter), it will be considered as truancy. If a member does not turn up for the 4th time, it will be a blue form submitted to HOD CCA. If a member does not turn up for the 6th time, it will be a pink form submitted to HOD CCA.
The count for attendance for
Semester 2 starts afresh starting from
22 May 2009 (Friday). Other than Sec 3 members who are supposed to be doing E-learning that day, all other members who are not present on Friday will need to produce a valid reason. Otherwise it will be taken as truancy. This stance will be enforced very strictly from now on. Latecoming fine still applies. The two-day training during June holidays will also be counted towards attendance in Semester 2.
If you are unsure of anything, please consult Ms Guo or Mrs Tan immediately.

CCA Attendance
Posted on: Tuesday, May 12, 2009
Posted at: 1:03 PM
Let us emphasize (again) the seriousness of CCA attendance. Absence from CCA is regarded as a very serious offence and it will definitely affect your conduct grade in which will also affect your chances in getting scholarship/bursary awards.
Hence, please inform Ms Guo or Mrs Tan whenever you are absent from CCA and submit a copy of your MC or parental letter (as the main copy needs to be submitted to your form teacher) to either of the two teachers promptly. We need the MC or the letter as a verification. If it is a funeral, please photocopy the death certificate and submit it together with the parental letter. Any other reasons, please seek permission from either of the two teachers
FIRST before leaving the school.
If your friend or classmate in CCA is absent, please be a kind soul and kindly remind him/her regarding this matter.

AEM Video Podcasting at NYP
Posted on: Friday, May 1, 2009
Posted at: 10:14 AM
The teachers are currently in discussions with NYP on the
Advanced Elective Module (AEM) Video Podcasting for our club members this coming
June 22-26 at
Nanyang Polyechnic.
A little background on AEM. AEMs are 40-hour courses in applied topics that offer students a better learning experience of applied learning - the polytechnic way. Conducted by polytechnic lecturers, the AEMs are geared towards enhancing the learning experience of students through practice-oriented approaches. They feature a higher practical component and more group projects than what the students usually experience from schools. Students taking these AEMs may participate in eye-opening field trips, hands-on projects, discussions with industry practitioners and various challenging competitions to test their new-found knowledge and skills. AEMs are reflected in the School Holistic Report Card and may be considered for polytechnic admission under the Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE) and the Direct Polytechnic Admission (DPA) Exercise.
Video Podcasting AEM is a popular one offered to only selected schools, thus the teachers have tried to secure this for our club members. Here is a rare opportunity offered to only
12 interested infocomm club members. This module introduces digital video production, conversion and broadcasting. You will learn the concepts and features of the different video formats and their compatibility with various mobile media devices. You will also learn to set up and implement an engaging media website with podcasting.
Expenses for this AEM is about $50 which can be paid through Edusave. Queries regarding the above AEM and those interested in this AEM, please inform Ms Guo by
8 May 2009 (Friday).
